Getting started

What does Dropmatch do?

Dropmatch is a Shopify app for adding new photos to your products. You drop your photos, it finds the product each photo belongs to, resizes and cleans the images, writes alt text and an SEO file name for each one, and sends them to your store once you approve.

Who is Dropmatch for?

Shopify brands that regularly add new photos to their products: new collections, restocks, new colours, photos from a photographer, a supplier or taken in-house. It is designed with fashion, jewelry and accessories stores in mind, but works with any product that has photos.

Does it work with my theme and my Shopify plan?

Yes. Dropmatch works inside your Shopify admin and adds photos to your products, so they appear wherever your theme shows product images. It doesn't change your theme, and doesn't require Shopify Plus or the Online Store channel.

Do I need to create an account? Can my team use it?

No account to create: Dropmatch installs from Shopify and uses your Shopify login. Staff members you give access to the app in Shopify can use it too.

Matching photos to products

How does it know which product a photo belongs to?

It compares the file name, the folder name, the SKU, the barcode and the product handle with your catalogue. A photo whose file name is the product's name, like linen-wrap-dress-2.jpg for “Linen Wrap Dress”, is matched straight away. It can also suggest a product from what the image shows, but a suggestion is never sent until you confirm it.

Anything unsure waits for your decision, and the reason for every match is shown. You can also assign photos by hand, or create a new product from them.

Do I need to rename my photos first?

No. Camera names like IMG_4821.jpg are fine as long as something tells which product a photo belongs to: a folder named after the product, or a SKU or barcode in the file name. A file already named after its product is matched straight away. Dropmatch gives each photo an SEO file name when it sends it.

What if a photo isn't matched?

It waits under “Needs your decision”. You can assign it to a product, create a new draft product from it, or leave it out. Photos you leave out are not described, so they cost no credits.

Can I choose the order of the photos and the main image?

Yes. Before sending, you can reorder the photos of each product by drag and drop or with buttons. On a new product, or a product without images, you choose which photo comes first and becomes the main image.

Can it attach photos to variants?

Not yet. Photos are added to the product's media. You can then assign an image to each variant in Shopify, as usual.

Texts and SEO

Which languages does it write in?

Alt text and SEO texts are written in one language per store: English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Portuguese, Swedish, Danish or Polish. The app's interface is available in English and French.

What are brand rules?

Two settings that guide every text Dropmatch writes: what it should always know about your brand (materials, collection names, facts to respect), and words it must never use.

Can I edit the texts before they go live?

Yes. Every alt text, file name and SEO field can be edited before sending. You can also ask for a new version: the first three rewrites of a photo are free.

Which AI does Dropmatch use?

Texts are written with Google's Gemini API, from a reduced copy of each photo. Photos are sent to Google only for that purpose, and your texts are always shown to you for review before anything is sent to your store.

Images

Which image formats are supported?

JPEG, PNG, WebP and TIFF, up to 20 MB and 20 megapixels per photo. There is no fixed number of photos per batch.

Are my images resized or cropped?

Resized, never cropped. Images are fitted within 1024, 2048 or 4096 pixels, as you choose in Settings, keeping their proportions, and never enlarged. They are sent as WebP or JPEG, with camera, date and location data removed.

Can it optimize the images already in my store?

No. Dropmatch works on the new photos you drop. It never modifies images that are already on your products.

Safety and undo

Will it replace my main image or overwrite my SEO?

No. On a product that already has images, new photos are added after them, so your main image doesn't change. SEO titles and meta descriptions are never overwritten: Dropmatch only fills them when they are empty, for example on the new products it creates.

Does it change my product descriptions or publish products?

No. Dropmatch never writes your product descriptions. New products are always created as drafts: publishing them is your decision, in Shopify.

Can I undo a batch?

Yes, at any time after sending. “Undo this batch” removes the photos the batch added, restores the SEO fields it filled if you haven't changed them since, and deletes the draft products it created. A product you edited in Shopify since is kept, and the app tells you why.

Privacy and data

What happens to my photos?

Only a cleaned copy is kept while you work: camera and location data are removed, and the original file is never stored. Photos are deleted from our servers once they're in your store, otherwise about 24 hours after upload. A countdown shows the time left, and you can reset it to 24 hours up to three times.

Your matches and texts are kept as text: dropping the same files again into that batch picks up where you left off, without using new credits.

What access does Dropmatch need, and where is my data hosted?

Dropmatch asks for access to your products and to file uploads. It never accesses your customers or your orders. The app and its database run on servers in Germany.

What happens if I uninstall?

Your photos are deleted immediately, and everything else about 48 hours later. Photos and texts already sent to your store stay on your products.

Plans and billing

Can I try it for free?

Yes. The Free plan describes up to 25 photos a month, with every feature included. Paid plans only add more photos.

What is a credit?

One credit describes one photo. Only the photos that will be sent to your store are described, and a photo that fails to be described isn't charged. Monthly credits don't roll over; yearly plans give the whole year's credits at once.

How is billing handled?

By Shopify, on your Shopify invoice. You can change or cancel your plan anytime from “Plan & usage” in the app.

Help

How do I get help?
